Gustavs Klucis’ Cabinet
LNMA permanent display, 2nd floor
Gustavs Klucis (1895 – 1938), a Latvian artist of world renown, worked in Soviet Russia during the 1920s and 30s. His oeuvre took shape in the context of Russian Avant-Garde art. Master’s creative heritage is extensive and diverse. Gustavs Klucis spent his entire life as an artist in the search for new and modern solutions for form. Supplementing his Constructivist experience with innovative photo-montage, Gustavs Klucis created a principally new language of visual expression. By cultivating the photo-montage method, artist made a major investment in the development of the contemporary appearance of polygraphic design – press publications, book and poster art.
The museum's graphics collection contains a significant number of Klucis’ artworks, sufficient to trace the evolution of the great master's style. This is thanks to a 1964 donation by the artist's widow, the artist Valentina Kulagina (1902–1987). |
